Summary:
This
chain of DNA depicts part of the sequence for POLI Polymerase (DNA
directed) iota [2]. The four bases A, C, G, T were drawn in ways
so that they resemble certain Chinese characters. Since Chinese
is a languages built by radicals, certain combinations of the four
bases can form new words or phrases, and hence new meanings. Just
like the messages encoded by the DNA, the Chinese words and phrases
present in the chain are hidden from the casual viewers.

| Summary:
Most scientists may agree that the consequences of advances in molecular
genetics depend on how we handle the findings. In recent years, due
to the unparalled attention on the field drawn by the media, the public
may react to these new advances with skepticism, fear, or even resentment.
In reality, gene therapy may be one of the divisions in genetics researches
that has far more benefits than risks. In my proposed design project,
„The missing part‰, I seek to use simple analogies from
human sculptures, detached body parts, and double helix wires, in
order to deliver a simple yet clear messageòGene therapy has tremendous
amount of therapeutic value that it will surely change the lives of
you, your friends and relatives, and your great-grandchildren. |
