Summary:
DNA
is the signature of life for any human being. Without DNA, no human
being would be the person that they are and what they have become.
Playing on this idea, this project conveys the idea of AGCT being
compared to the word LIFE. In contrast to the scientific basis that
this project is founded upon, it also displays the idea of accidents
being works of art. This is completely opposite of factual scientific
evidence of DNA, but the letters L I F E create different shapes
as well as passages through negative space that is ultimately out
of the artist's control.

Summary:
This
paper discusses the ethical views regarding designer babies while
taking on the antagonistic view of this entire subject. The constant
question throughout this paper is: Should humans be given the right
to control who we are genetically? The answer to this question in
my point of view is no. The proposed project called the Gene Bank
is one that backs up this stance on this subject. The Gene Bank
is a laboratory where prospective parents can come and design their
own child genetically. The unique difference of this laboratory
is that here, each gene has a color of its own. While injecting
these genes into the embryo, the parent takes on the role of both
the scientist and the artist, deciding the color genetic sequence
of their child and the choice of which genes will be included. The
negative effect to this designer child is that depending on the
gene chosen by the parents, those genes will collaborate into! a
beautiful model child, or if the genes have a faulty interaction,
they will form deformities in the following three possible categories:
physical, cognitive or behavioral. These deformities are the negative
consequences to designer babies which I feel are quite possible
occurances for the future generation of children once the technology
is materialized.
